Pioneer Scholars Lead Tutor

Do you have a passion for teaching elementary and middle school students? Are you great at building relationships with students and their caregivers? Would you be excited to support the development of academic skills and habits that will help students prepare for long-term success? If so, please consider applying for our part-time Lead Tutor position with our Pioneer Scholars program for the 2026-2027 school year. Next Steps Teacher Fellowship

This 8-month paid leadership opportunity centers the important role teachers play in supporting students’ postsecondary planning. We will select teachers from Durham Public Schools high schools to work collaboratively with other Fellows and Emily K Center staff to implement postsecondary planning framework into schools and lead initiatives providing support for students completing critical milestones. Elementary and Middle School Program Assistant

Are you an organized, detail-oriented team player with a passion for education? As the Program Assistant for the Pioneer Scholars program, you’ll be at the heart of making things happen—coordinating day-to-day logistics, engaging with families, and supporting everything from special events to student recruitment. You’ll manage data, connect with community partners and volunteers, and help create a welcoming, efficient environment where students can thrive. Learn more about the Program Assistant position.

Social and Emotional Learning Specialist

The Emily K Center’s Socioemotional Learning (SEL) Strategy promotes students’ emotional well-being, resilience, and academic success through SEL instruction, individual student support, and connections to mental health and community resources. Reporting to the Student Resource and Support Manager, the SEL Specialist develops and facilitates lessons for students enrolled in our Scholars to College program. College Advisor, Scholars to College

College Advisors provide structured and individualized advising sessions that equip Scholars to College seniors with the information and support needed to make informed decision about their college options. Advisors assist students throughout the application process, including college research, essay development, residency determination, scholarship search and completion of financial aid forms. Scholars to College is a free, four-year college readiness program that assists academically-focused students in grades 9-12 who face systemic barriers to equitable educational outcomes.
