Emily K Center Congratulates Coach K on News of his Retirement

June 3, 2021

The Emily Krzyzewski Center would like to congratulate Coach K on his recently announced retirement. Coach K is synonymous with Duke Basketball, and his achievements on the court are truly historic. While we do call him ‘Coach,’ his legacy at the Center and throughout the broader Durham community extends far beyond the hardwood. A first-generation college student, Coach K understands the important role that education plays in a young person’s life, and his commitment to the work of the Emily K Center and Durham students has long been evident.

This Center which bears his mother’s name serves nearly 2,000 students annually, helping them chart their own paths to higher education. So while Coach may be formally retiring as the head coach of Duke Men’s Basketball, we know that his impact on Durham will continue, both through his support and dedication to the Emily K Center and through the many students who shine brightly in their schools and communities every day.

Center Executive Director Adam Eigenrauch adds, “Coach K has paved the way for so many young people to achieve their goals and dreams, both on the basketball court and in their professional lives. While we celebrate his retirement from coaching, we also know that he will continue to inspire future generations through his work with the Emily Krzyzewski Center and his many other endeavors.”
