Construction to Begin Soon on Emily K Center Building Expansion
The Emily Krzyzewski Center is currently in the final year of a three-year, comprehensive fundraising campaign, one component of which is a facility expansion. When the Center first opened in 2006, we had one program serving 38 students. Today, we serve as a college access hub for Durham and work with more than 2,000 students each year across four educational programs. With this growth, we have significantly outgrown our space.
As such, we are proceeding with a 7,500 square foot addition to the Center which will provide needed classroom and advising space for our students. The addition will be built behind our current facility alongside Buchanan Boulevard. Construction is slated to begin in mid-May and should conclude in the late summer of 2021.
We have created a website at gamechanger.emilyk.org/expansion where we will post updates on the construction status every two weeks. You can also find a list of frequently asked questions about the project and construction on the site. Questions that aren’t answered on the expansion website? Please e-mail us at expansion@emilyk.org.
