Announcing New Board Members and Volunteer Award Winners

August 29, 2024

The Emily Krzyzewski Center recently hosted our annual Board of Directors retreat, where we celebrated winners of the Duke University Volunteer Service Award and welcomed four new members of the Board.

Each year, Emily K Center staff nominate volunteers who have performed exemplary service and demonstrated a commitment to the Center’s mission. 2024 Duke University Volunteer Service Award winners include Simren Mehta (senior at Cary Academy), Morgan Middleton (Senior Assistant Director at NC State University’s Scholarships and Financial Aid) and Tom White (Director of Economic Development Partnership at NC State University).

These individuals have worked across programs to advise students, offer resources, and/or support fundraising efforts at the Center. Mehta is a volunteer tutor with the Center’s Pioneer Scholars program, Middleton regularly shares his financial aid expertise at events and workshops, and White has volunteered in a variety of capacities since the organization’s inception, including committee and Board membership.

Middleton shared, “The hospitality at the Center is second to none. Every time I come there for an event or to present, I always feel like I belong. This place is my home away from home.”

Joining the Emily K Center Board of Directors this year are Dr. Tonya Armstrong (Founder and CEO of The Armstrong Center for Hope), Daisy Magnus-Aryitey (Co-Executive Director at Code the Dream), John McCann (President of Partners in Performance), and David Morris (Partner at Michael Best and Friedrich LLP).

“I am thrilled to welcome this stellar group to our Board of Directors,” says Eigenrauch. “Each individual brings knowledge, expertise, and a passion for the work that we do here at the Center. I’m grateful for their dedication and excited to work alongside them.”
