During Adam’s tenure, the Center grew from one program serving 38 students in its first year to four programs serving nearly 2,000 students annually. Since 2021 alone, the Emily K Center has completed a 7500-square-foot-building expansion, celebrated numerous college and high school graduates in our enrollment-based programs, and released an ambitious three-year strategic plan. Adam has partnered closely with Dr. Valerie Anderson since 2017 to strengthen the Center’s impact and expand programming.

Announcing CEO Transition at the Emily K Center
The Emily K Center announced today that Adam Eigenrauch will step down as Chief Executive Officer, effective June 30, 2025. Adam has been a valuable member of the Emily K Center staff since 2006, leading the organization through nearly two decades of meaningful work in the Durham community. The Board of Directors has appointed the Center’s current Executive Director, Dr. Valerie Anderson, as CEO starting July 1, 2025.
“On behalf of the Board, I want to sincerely thank Adam for his contributions as CEO,” says Mike Krzyzewski, Board Chair and Founder. “Adam’s guidance and dedication to our mission have enabled the Center to thrive. It has been inspiring to witness the profound impact of the Emily K Center, much of which is a direct result of his outstanding leadership.”
Valerie was recently promoted to Executive Director in 2024, after serving as Chief Impact Officer. She has played a key leadership role in strengthening school partnerships, expanding the reach of the Game Plan: College and Scholars on Campus programs, and developing the Center’s first mental health support initiative.
“Serving as the Center’s CEO has been an honor and privilege,” says Adam Eigenrauch. “I’m so proud of everything we’ve accomplished together since opening our doors in 2006 and could not be more thrilled to welcome Valerie into this role. Her knowledge and expertise have already proven to be invaluable, and I know the Center will continue to thrive under Dr. Anderson’s leadership.”
