Emily K Center Welcomes Three New Board Members

The Emily Krzyzewski Center, a nonprofit organization in Durham, North Carolina, that serves as a college access hub, has just announced the addition of three new members to its Board of Directors:

Robin Barefoot currently serves as General Counsel for the Triangle Community Foundation. In this role, she leads the policy and governance work of the Foundation while also helping donors design charitable funds that best meet the needs of the community and the donors’ philanthropic goals.

Joel Marcus is the Executive Chairman and Founder of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. (NYSE: ARE), the country’s leading provider of collaborative life science and technology campuses. After founding Alexandria in 1994, Marcus led its growth into an S&P 500 company and served as CEO until April of 2018. A first-generation college student himself, Marcus deeply understands the importance of providing the Center’s students with the support they need for success in their academics and future endeavors.

Joshua Mbanusi serves as Program Manager for MDC, having served the organization since 2014 as an Autry Fellow. Mbanusi brings a unique background in education to the board, having formerly served as a Teach For America corps member and U.S. Department of Education intern.

“Robin, Joel, and Joshua are fantastic additions to our Board of Directors,” shared Board Vice Chair Jamie Spatola. “They each bring a unique perspective to the Center and will have much to share with us over the next several years. We look forward to seeing their contributions as we work to make college a reality for even more Durham students.”

Emily K Center Executive Director Adam Eigenrauch adds, “Welcoming Robin, Joel, and Joshua to our board greatly strengthens our organization. Their expertise will further our work and will help create a better Emily K Center both today and well into the future.”
